About Speed Test Max
Speed Test Max is a free, browser-based internet speed test built for the multi-gigabit era. Where most speed test tools cap out at 1 Gbps, Speed Test Max measures download speed, upload speed, ping, jitter, and packet loss on connections up to 10 Gbps — no app, plugin, or sign-up required.
We built this tool because home internet changed faster than the tools measuring it did. Fiber providers now sell symmetrical gigabit and multi-gigabit plans, cable operators are rolling out DOCSIS 4.0 networks capable of 10 Gbps downstream, and Wi-Fi 7 routers are shipping in flagship phones and laptops. A speed test that tops out at 940 Mbps can’t tell a fiber subscriber whether they’re actually getting what they pay for. Speed Test Max was built to close that gap.
Why We Built Speed Test Max
Most people run a speed test once — after they’ve called their ISP to complain. We think a speed test should be something you trust enough to run regularly: after a router upgrade, before signing a new internet plan, or when troubleshooting a slow video call. That means the results need to be accurate, repeatable, and easy to understand, whether you’re a network engineer or checking your home Wi-Fi for the first time.
Every test run on Speed Test Max reports four numbers that actually matter:
- Download speed (Mbps) — how fast data moves from the internet to your device. This drives streaming, browsing, downloads, and gaming.
- Upload speed (Mbps) — how fast data moves from your device to the internet. This matters for video calls, cloud backup, and content creators uploading large files.
- Ping / latency (ms) — the round-trip time between your device and our test server. Lower is better for anything real-time, especially gaming and video conferencing.
- Jitter (ms) — how much your ping varies test to test. High jitter causes choppy calls and unstable connections even when average speed looks fine.
Built for the Multi-Gigabit Internet Era
The internet’s speed ceiling has moved. The FCC’s current benchmark for “broadband” is 100 Mbps download / 20 Mbps upload — a fourfold increase from the 25/3 Mbps standard set in 2015 — with a long-term national goal of 1 Gbps/500 Mbps. At the same time, the cable industry’s 10G initiative, led by CableLabs, is pushing DOCSIS 4.0 networks toward 10 Gbps downstream and 6 Gbps upstream over existing hybrid fiber-coaxial lines. On the wireless side, Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be), finalized by the IEEE in 2024, raises theoretical per-band throughput into the tens of gigabits per second using Multi-Link Operation across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands.
Speed Test Max exists because a testing tool needs to keep pace with that infrastructure — not lag two generations behind it.
Accuracy & Methodology
Every result on Speed Test Max is measured, not estimated.
Here’s how we keep it honest:
Server proximity. Tests run against the nearest available server in our network to minimize the distance-related latency that can drag down an otherwise fast connection. You can manually select a different test server at any time.
Multi-phase measurement. Download, upload, ping, and jitter are each measured in separate phases using parallel data streams, which is the same general approach used by established measurement platforms like Ookla Speedtest and M-Lab’s Network Diagnostic Tool, rather than a single blended number that can hide real bottlenecks.
No app, no install. Testing happens entirely in your browser. We don’t require downloads, and we don’t request the device-level permissions that native apps typically ask for.
Transparent limitations. Wi-Fi results will almost always read lower than a wired test on the same connection — that’s normal, and we explain why on our homepage testing guide rather than let the number stand unexplained. Older network hardware, in-home congestion, and ISP peak-hour throttling can all affect results regardless of what tool you use.
Internet Data You Can Trust
Beyond the speed test itself, our Internet Availability Search and provider comparisons draw on public data from the FCC National Broadband Map, the federal government’s official record of which ISPs report service at a given address.⁴ We link back to primary sources — the FCC, IEEE, and CableLabs — throughout our site rather than asking you to take our word for it.

We don’t require an account to run a test, and we don’t sell the results of your individual tests to third parties.
